North Laine Community Association's next community meeting is our ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING on Tuesday, April 21 at The Foyer, Pelham Street at 7.30pm.

The deadline to receive any nominations for officers
and trustees for the year ahead is Tuesday, April 14 and we have some important posts to fill.

This will be a major year for the association, which formed exactly half a century ago when the area had become rundown and neglected.

Now, after recent celebrations reflecting the part the association has played in regeneration of our area – including a book, calendar, exhibition and anniversary party – we must turn our attention to the future.

NLCA needs to define what is important to people who live and work here, so the association can remain effective and relevant.

Later this year we will be arranging a special meeting to decide what the big issues are for our community, and how we can retain a strong voice in the face of planners, developers and politicians who are lining up to make decisions that will affect us all.

We shall need a strong team to meet future challenges such as the redevelopment of the huge Royal Mail sorting office site in North Road, the future of public access to the Royal Pavilion gardens, and control of the growing number of Airbnbs in North Laine.

Our work also involves social activities – picnics, parties, pub nights and entertainment events, as well as concerns with our environment, including anti-tagging work. You can play a part in whatever area interests you – and a good way to start is by coming along to this year’s annual general meeting.

Nominations for officers, coordinators and trustees can be made by any NLCA member (any resident of North Laine, or any honorary member) naming either themselves or another willing member.

Candidates must be NLCA members – that means living in North Laine. Each nomination must be seconded by another NLCA member. Seconded nominations must be dated and emailed to secretary@northlaine.info before 7.30pm on April 14, as NLCA’s constitution states they must be received no less than seven days before the start of the AGM.

ON TUESDAY, MAY 19Dr Geoffrey Mead will give a talk at the NLCA community meeting on "A man may have constant employ..." Aspects of North Laine's industrial history, at The Foyer, Pelham Street, starting at 7.30pm.

COME ALONG TO ONE OF OUR NLCA SOCIAL EVENTS – these range from pub nights, summer picnics, meals out together, street parties and comedy nights.
