Planning applications

How the NLCA decides


If an application is considered detrimental to the conservation area, contravenes Planning Policies, or distorts the mixed use nature of the area, we will object.

Where time allows, applications affecting the North Laine are discussed at the monthly residents' meeting. If you wish to have an input, please come along. Click here for details of the next meeting.

BH2024/01217 76 Upper Gloucester Road

Erection of an additional storey to provide 1no residential unit (C3) incorporating two storey rear infill extension, internal reconfiguration of existing building, internal cycle store.

Closing date for comments 14 June

BH2024/01103  Theatre Royal, 35 Bond Street

Removal of reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) planks within roof to left of main theatre building and replacement with timber joists with insulated roof above and new rainwater goods including gutters, downpipes and gulleys.

RAAC has been identified within two flat roof areas above the left-wing area of the main stage, which houses the main ATG staff offices/toilets. The proposals are in line with the requirements to remove and replace the identified RAAC as soon as possible.

BH2024/01182  20 New Road

Prior approval for change of use of rear of third floor from commercial premises (Class E) to residential (Class C3) to create 1no flat.

BH2024/00921 and 00922  8 – 11 Pavilion Buildings.

Refurbishment of building

Up until October 2023, 8/11 Pavilion Buildings was a branch of NatWest Bank. It is Grade II listed and owned by Brighton & Hove City Council. The building sits at the right hand side of the entrance to Pavilion Buildings, with return elevation on North Street. Pavilion Buildings forms a main pedestrian entrance, India Gate (Grade II listed), to the Royal Pavilion Gardens and the Royal Pavilion itself (Grade I listed)
