Planning:

66 North Road – application for change of use from tattoo parlour to estate agent. No physical changes except signage.

Tower Point – application approved for a roof garden, bar and sauna with glass curtain wall on the southern wing of the two blocks) As requested by NLCA, conditions include hours limited to 11pm, noise management plan and use only linked to shared office space and not an independent commercial unit.

42 Tidy Street windows and door replaced following enforcement by the Council. Short term letting appeal still continuing.

62 Frederick Street – approved with existing timber front door to be retained, rear window replacement units to be plastic and same size as existing.

The Pond – amended application to awning as Heritage objected to previous framework as there is a listed building across the road.

47 Trafalgar Street – variation of the current food hall planning application – NLCA has supported but requested that one of the kitchen extractors be repositioned further from neighbouring windows

Outside NLCA area but still of interest – Hippodrome in Middle Street amended application approved.

Licensing: No new applications

Anti-tagging: Emma Humphreys was congratulated for her great work on this, which includes posting before and after pictures also published in the Runner. 16 anti-tagging kits have been requested.Emma has also put signs on painted-out walls stating that "the property is being cared for by the neighbourhood" and this seems to be having some effect in discouraging more tagging.

The green shutters on the vape shop in Trafalgar Street have been very badly tagged, Emma has been in to see if the owners could paint over but no result yet. She will contact Tim Rowkins at BHCC and see if they could send a letter to the owners.

Runner: 300th issue successfully published.

​

Social: Communities and Charities Day will be on July 4 – tombola prizes are requested; Picnic (50th anniversary) is in Pelham Square on July 12; annual tea party in Pavilion Gardens run by David Sewell is the first Sunday in September (6th) and the comedy night at Komedia has been booked for September 28.​

Anniversary: The 50th anniversary exhibition is to be reprised at the Jubilee Library from July 6-13. It will also be at the MET College for a month from September 14s.

Sue has one box left of the A5 exhibition booklets – trustees agreed to 100 more being ordered. People will be asked for donations rather than setting a price for the pamphlets.

NLCA Future meeting: This has been booked at Komedia on September 28 to encourage members ideas and state how they will help to make make these happen.

The latest edition of the Runner has published about half of Matt Baker’s ideas/proposals. The next edition will continue the theme.

Is Matt coming to the September meeting? Would he be willing to be tech and comms officer for NLCA given his many ideas for updating NLCA and increasing our online presence?

Should NLCA be more involved with traders? General consensus of "yes" from trustees but we want the Runner to keep its independent voice and not carry direct advertising features.

Further items:

Emma Humphreys sent a proposal by email to trustees for a labyrinth in Jubilee Square. Emma will take this forward and facilitate/promote it to Brighton Council but is requesting that NLCA be the applicant. It’s important that it is good quality and permanent. Local councillors Sue Shanks and Ellen McLeay could also be contacted for their support and CIL money or grants could be available to help fund the project.

Trustees supported the idea and will take it to the next community meeting for their approval.
