On Church Street between New Road and Jubilee Street

The Church Street crossing between New Road and Jubilee Street is due to be resurfaced. The work is part of a scheme to improve the area for pedestrians and to make crossing Church Street safer and easier.

A raised table

A ‘raised table’ was installed earlier this year2011, so that vehicles must travel up a ramp when entering the crossing area and down a ramp at the end. This makes it easier for people with impaired mobility, such as those in wheelchairs, to cross and also highlights to drivers that they are entering an area where pedestrians will be crossing.

The surface will look different

The new surfacing will further reinforce to drivers that the area is different from other parts of Church Street by creating a different coloured road surface.
