Pavilion Gardens Cafe celebrates its 70th year

Trading there since 1941

This year 2011 marks the Pavilion Gardens Café’s 70th anniversary, as they have been trading in Pavilion Gardens since 1941.

Events to celebrate

They will be having events throughout the summer season:

·         A Café Book launch on 30th April

·         Three Café History Tours by Geoffrey Mead

·         Pavilion Gardens Tree Tours by Peter Bourne as part of the Brighton Fringe Festival in May

·         Their annual Brighton Lions Charity Funday on 26th June, this year raising money for Help for Heroes

·         And more to follow....

A new book about the café

The QueenSpark book of customer interviews is being finalised at present
and will be published in April. The book launch will be on Saturday
30th April at 2pm at the café. The provisional title is 'Tea Time Tales: Pavilion Gardens Café Interviews’.

The photos

The photos show the original refreshment hut by the north side of the Royal Pavilion from 1941-50 (the bottom one is a close-up). It has been the Sewell family’s privilege to have been trading and serving the public in the Pavilion Gardens for all these years. They say they love being very much part of the history and continuity at the heart of the North Laine community, making up Brighton & Hove's rich heritage, and they hope to continue for many years to come.
