Talk at the AGM, Monday 18th April 2011
GEOFFREY MEAD, local historian/urban geographer, was the speaker at the NLCA's AGM on Monday, 18th April 2011 and gave a talk on 'Brighton Rock and Brighton crime'.
When
The meeting was held at Community Base (Conference Room), South Wing, Queen's Road, starting at 7.45pm.
Background
'Brighton Rock’ is hot news again with the latest film release. It is a topic that seems to many to epitomise a particular aspect of Brighton: criminality, brutality and general lawlessness. How did this image occur? It certainly predates the book of 1938. In this talk Geoff Mead looked at aspects of Brighton's past showing a continuity of criminality up to the present day.
Short AGM
Geoff's talk was preceded by a short AGM to vote in new officers for the coming year and to accept the annual reports on the past year.
