Announcing the winners of the window dressing competition
Street party on 19th September 2010
By the Over Street team
On Sunday 19th September Over Street held their fourth street party, shared again with Frederick Gardens and Trafalgar Terrace.
Window dressing
It began with a Window Dressing Competition judged by Vicky of 'Paint Pots' who provided the trophy tile, which was won by five-year-olds Lucy and Elly with a spectacular underwater scene.
Children's activities
There were two bouncy castles for children of all ages plus loads of games, sweets to guess in an oversized jar, and a snake pinyata to smash open. Children old and young made paper aeroplanes on the crafts stall as well as decorating them.
Other activities
The street was decorated with bunting and furnished by gazebos. People brought out tables and chairs and bottles of wine while sausages from the 'Brighton Sausage Company'sizzled on barbecues. Superchef Michael cooked bespoke crepes to suit all tastes. This Lady Sings! created a great atmosphere with her easy listening jazz and swing, as did Jason Abrahams with his zingy Frank Sinatra tunes. A table of delicious home-made cakes and a book stall raised £106 for the Martlets Hospice.
Generous donations
The party was again made possible by the generosity of Nick Gorton of North Laine Financial Management, Travis Perkins and other residents.
Thanks to all
The sun shone on another fine day, which was enjoyed by everyone who was there. Very many thanks to all those who attended the planning meetings, baked the cakes, and gave their time on the day to make the party possible.
