A brief history
By Maureen Brand, North Laine resident
Frederick Street runs between Gloucester Road and North Road.
Built circa 1823-30, an 1868 street directory offers a snapshot of business at that time: two milliners, a mineral water manufacturer, greengrocer, beer retailer and general shop, public house (Blue Post Tavern), dressmaker, insurance agent and bootmaker.
Today
Today the street offers a mix of building styles, old and more modern cottages on the east side with modern offices on the right.
