A swarm of bees, 15 August 2010
By Jackie Fuller, North Laine resident
A swarm of bees descended onto one of the tables of the Utopia Cafe in Gardner Street on 15th August 2010. This caused great alarm and the people eating there were forced to move away.
When bees swarm they are trying to form a new colony, so the swarm must have included a queen bee and a scout bee looking for somewhere to nest. Maybe they were finding it difficult to locate a suitable tree or bush in such a built-up city.
