Many requests for later hours

AGM report on Licensing, 2009/10
By Roy Skam, NLCA Licensing Coordinator

Again the past year has been relatively quiet, compared to the frantic years following the 2003 Licensing Act.  I really think the requirement for new liquor licences in the North Laine area has reached saturation point.

Variation requests are more prevalent

However, applications for variations to existing licences are more prevalent, particularly with regard to applications for an increase in opening hours.  These we vigorously oppose when requested to by our residents, as complaints about night time noise and disturbance continue to rise.

Important to record disturbances

Experience of complaints to the Council has shown that it is vital that you keep a list (such as a diary) of all disturbances and log those complaints to the Divisional Environmental Health Officer at the Council as they happen.  If not, the official stance seems to be that if there are no complaints there is no problem! The telephone number is (01273) 292436.

The telephone number for the Police is 0845 6070 999.
