Talk by Rose Collis on the new Encyclopaedia of Brighton, 19 April 2010

ROSE COLLIS, author of the New Encyclopaedia of Brighton (to be published in May by Brighton Libraries) will give us a sneak preview from this fully updated, re-edited and revised version of Timothy Carder's seminal 1990 book, at the NLCA’s AGM on Monday, 19th April, 8pm at Brighthelm Church & Community Centre, top of North Road.

An A to Z

Covering everything from ‘Abattoirs' (particularly rife in the North Laine area) to 'Zap Club', come and learn more about Brighton's more unusual histories, from Hollingdean's 'clinker' wall to the Brighton tsunami...

More about Rose Collis

Brighton-based Rose Collis is an author and journalist whose critically acclaimed books include Coral Browne: This Effing Lady (2007), Colonel Barker's Monstrous Regiment (2001) and A Trouser-Wearing Character: The Life & Times of Nancy Spain (1997). She also wrote the hugely successful Brighton Boozers book and exhibition (2005), which ran at Brighton Museum for 15 months, and gives her own brand of Walkie Talkies about unorthodox aspects of the city's history, including several sell-out events in last year's Brighton Fringe Festival.

Come along...

This is an event not to be missed. It’s open to all North Laine residents and friends of NLCA and will be preceded by a short AGM, so that new officers can be elected for the coming year. (Click here for Agenda.) The meeting and talk will be held in the Hanover Room at Brighthelm, top of North Road, at 8pm.
