Street party on 13 September 2009

On Sunday 13th September Over Street held their third street party, shared again with Frederick Gardens and Trafalgar Terrace.

Games galore

There were games galore for children and adults. They played Pétanque, Giant Jenga, table football, face painting, arts and crafts and hoopla, guessed the number of sweets in an oversized jar, smashed open a pinyata and completed a mammoth jigsaw puzzle.We had two bouncy castles, a big one for older children and a little one for toddlers. The day ended with a slow bike race for all ages and a street cricket match.

A Parisian feel to the street

The street was decorated with bunting and furnished with gazebos which had carpets to sit on, kindly donated by Peter Davey of the Natural Flooring Centre. People brought out tables and chairs, giving the street a Parisian feel as residents tucked into sausages from the Brighton Sausage Company, which were sizzled on barbecues. Funds were raised for the Martlets Hospice by a table of delicious home-made cakes and a book stall.

Financial support

The party was again made possible by the generosity of Nick Gorton of North Laine Financial Management, Travis Perkins and other residents.

Celebratory supper

After clearing up there was a celebratory supper in 'The Pond' plus a table football competition.  Altogether it was a great day enjoyed by everyone there. Very many thanks to all those who attended the planning meetings, made the cakes, and gave their time on the day to make the party possible.
