Taken from the top of Theobald House

This aerial view of North Laine was taken in 1978 from the top of Theobald House. One very obvious difference from the same view today [2009] is the derelict site bottom left of the photo, on the corner of Whitecross Street and Trafalgar Street. This site was subsequently turned into a community garden by the North Laine Community Association - yes, there were 'guerrilla gardeners' even then!

Later the site was sold and redeveloped. There are now a few houses on the Whitecross Street frontage and a cafe/restaurant fronting Trafalgar Street.
