Can it be improved?

By Sandy Crowhurst, North Laine resident

For decades there has been a Saturday market in Upper Gardner Street. many can remember when it was a thriving market selling a variety of goods including fruit and vegetables and when stallholders would come from all over the town, having hired a barrow to display and carry their wares.

For most North Laine residents the market is very much part of the area and reflects many of the characteristics of the North Laine. On a bright and sunny day you can still get a good idea of the character of the market and we have seen in recent years the influx of new stalls particularly the organic vegetable stal at the North Road end of the street. On wet days though the market can look a little sad.

What do you think should be the future of this once so attractive market and what should happen to the cars parked alongside the  stalls that we do see?
