Sale of Bread Street houses

Auction documents from 1903
By Peter Crowhurst, North Laine resident

These documents from an auction held at the Old Ship Hotel in 1903 give us an idea of the cost of rent in that era and the facilities of accommodation offered for rent. Most people rented their accommodation then and often stayed in the same rooms for a considerable time. All of these properties have sitting tenants, with two having rented the same property for at least five years.
