Simon Callow unveils 'Blue Plaque' in honour of Peggy Ramsay
29th June 2009
By Peter Crowhurst, North Laine resident
The North Laine has had another 'Blue Plaque' unveiled to a former resident. The recipient is Peggy Ramsay, who had a house in Kensington Place in the 1960s. A close friend of Peggy's, Simon Callow, unveiled the plaque on 29th June 2009 in front of TV cameras, the Mayor of Brighton & Hove and a number of local residents.
Peggy was a playwrights' agent whose list of clients was a 'who's who' of the literary and theatrical world. Among her clients were Windsor Davies, Simon Callow, Gunther Grass, John Lennon, Colin McInnes, John Mortimer, Muriel Spark and Joe Orton. Peggy used to like to keep her private and professional life well apart and her little house in Kensington Place provided her with ample opportunity to escape London for the weekend to her retreat at 34 Kensington Place.
