Competitions in the community
By Gabrielle Villermet, NLCA representative on City in Bloom Working Group
I continue to represent NLCA on the City in Bloom Working Group, the aim of which is to encourage residents and traders to make Brighton & Hove streets, gardens and parks florally attractive.
Various categories
There are annual 'Competitions in the Community', with various categories including Best Front Garden, Best Hanging Basket and Best Window Box to encourage individuals, communities and traders to participate.
Last year's winners
Last year two North Laine residents, Chris McGivern and Tracey Woolger, both of Gloucester Street, won awards in the Best Front Garden category.
North Laine traders, including My Hotel, the White Rabbit, Neal's Yard and Ideya Cafe, were awarded prizes for their attractive florally decorated premises.
Entry forms available soon
There were fewer entries to the competitions last year and we hope to see more when City in Bloom 2009 is launched in April and when entry forms will be available.
