Party in Over Street, 14th September 2008

Together with Frederick Gardens and Trafalgar Terrace
By the street party team

Another successful street party was held in Over Street on 14th September 2008, the first fine Sunday for weeks. The party was shared with Frederick Gardens and Trafalgar Terrace and brought well over 100 people together in the street. Donations from Nick Gorton of North Laine Financial Management and other residents helped to make the day an outstanding success.

An outdoor room

The street became an outdoor room, with carpet on the ground, bunting overhead and furnished with gazebos, tables and chairs. A variety of delicious sausages from the Brighton Sausage Company fed a hungry crowd for more than four hours, followed by home-made cakes at tea-time. The collection box on the cake table raised £73.65 for the Martlets Hospice.

The children loved it

There were two bouncy castles for the energetic, as well as face painting, crafts, table football, skittles, Giant Jenga and stalls selling toys. Other activities included a piñata and a board for people to draw a portrait or leave their mark.  A very popular pétanque pitch doubled as a toddlers' sandpit. A number of other stalls provided excellent opportunities to dawdle and gossip. Everyone enjoyed the live music provided by Alan, the harpist, and rock stars Paul and Jasper.  And a slow bike race added the finishing touch.

A glorious day

Altogether it was a glorious day enjoyed by everyone there. Very many thanks to all those who attended the planning meetings, made the cakes, gave their time on the day to make the party possible, and took the photgraphs.
