Travel with Ken on Service 50
Ken Fines
Brighton & Hove Buses honour Ken Fines
By Maureen Brand, North Laine resident
Many in North Laine remember Ken Fines, Borough Planning Officer of Brighton from 1974 to 1983, with affection and gratitude, It was largely due to his enthusiasm and foresight that North Laine was designated a Conservation Area, carrying that name. In recent years a tree in Sydney Street was planted in his honour. Sadly, Ken died in 2008.
The Ken Fines bus, Service 50
It is the custom of Brighton & Hove Bus and Coach Company to name buses after prominent citizens and we asked them if it would be possible for one of their buses to be named Ken Fines. We have just heard that one of their new single deck buses will be so designated. Look for it (mostly) on Service 50 which runs between Hollingdean, Ditchling Road, the Open Market, Old Steine, Clock Tower and Brighton Station.
We thank Roger French and Brighton & Hove Buses for their courtesy in acknowledging this great contributor to the city.
