Brighton Unitarian Church
Brighton Unitarian Church in New Road
A sacred space in the heart of Brighton
You may be familiar with the façade of the Grade II Listed Building in New Road, right next to the Royal Pavilion, the Theatre Royal and the Jubilee Library (all wonderful Brighton landmark buildings), but do you know what goes on inside?
A modern religious outlook
Brighton Unitarian Church say they welcome all who seek a better understanding of life through spiritual exploration. They have respect for all faiths, coupled with a modern religious outlook that encourages freedom of individual thought and conscience.
Services
Services are held every Sunday at 11 am followed by light refreshments. Whether you have a particular faith or not you are welcome to attend. On the first Sunday of each month special provision is made for children.
Used by local community groups
The Unitarian Church is committed to maintaining a sacred space in the heart of Brighton and tries to achieve this by letting out its hall on a daily basis to local community groups for a whole range of different activities, including a nursery school, choral groups, African drumming workshops, yoga, tai chi and traditional Kung Fu.
Various events
Over the past few years the Unitarian Church has seen an increase in requests for weddings, ceremonies of commitment, child-namings and other rites of passage. These, together with the many concerts, recitals, exhibitions and talks that take place in the church, make it a vibrant and exciting place right in the heart of the City.
The Church is very much involved with the Brighton Festival during May and in September is a venue for the BBC's Brighton Live programme. In October the Church hosts some of the concerts that form part of the World Sacred Musical Festival here in Brighton.
