These are the main planning applications affecting North Laine during June and July 2008, together with NLCA comments as agreed at the monthly community meetings:

GB Liners, Blackman St (BH2008/01268 FP): Proposed demolition of existing B8 building at rear of site facing Blackman St. Redevelopment of site for offices (B1). Applicant: Mr Robert Bartup. NLCA: We have not objected to this application but we have told the Council that we have some reservations about the height and feel the proposal is not sympathetic with the character of the area. We hope that the A1 (retail) use of the shops units will not be allowed to become A4 (take-away).

42 Kemp St (BH2008/01263): Proposed replacement of 2 windows on front elevation. Applicant: Mr N Pannett. NLCA: We welcome this proposal to replace existing non-traditional windows with traditional wooden sash windows.

Land at rear of 39 Gardner St (BH2008/00671): Proposed 3 storey office block. Applicant: Mr Duncan Thomas (readvertisement)

42 Sydney St - former Porcupine Café (BH2008/01147): Repairs and alterations including replacement and upgrading of existing inadequate mechanical extract and provision of vertical flues to existing rear café/restaurant kitchen. Applicant: Mr Luis Benjumeda. NLCA: Nothing visible from front. No comment.

Unit 1A Jubilee St (BH2008/01412): New shop fit to existing unit with disabled access and associated shop front alterations. Applicant: Clement Joscelyne

38A Trafalgar St (BH2008/00855): Installation of double-glazed velux window to east roof slope (retrospective). Applicant: Ms Louise Colbourne. NLCA: Not visible from road. No comment.

1-2 Regent St - Sea & Ski (BH2008/01953): Existing building (1-2 Regent St) to be demolished. Erection of new 4 storey building to include retail space on ground floor with 5 flats above. Applicant: Mrs Jessica Hamilton (B&H City Council). NLCA: Object. We feel that the proposed new building is too high and out of character with the North Laine Conservation Area and nearby Listed Buildings.

1-2 Regent St (BH2008/01955): As above.

13-16 Vine St - formerly Motorpair (BH2008/01797): Redevelopment of site from B1/B8 (offices and warehousing) to B1/B8 use with addition of one 2-bedroom dwelling. Concrete and asbestos roof to be removed and part replace. Applicant: Mr James Oliver. NLCA: No comment.

14 Kensington Pl (BH2008/01861): Replacement windows. Applicant: Miss Toni Irvin. NLCA: No objection. Replacing with like-for-like wooden window frames.
