Rita describes her life in Tidy Street on another page. This article provides some additional information about her family. Her father, Philip, worked with his brother William Frederick Bannister, at 27 Elder Place. They formed a business and later moved to Park Crescent Place. During World War II they manufactured parts for Radar. Rita completed her education at Varndean in 1942 and then worked in the pay office of Radar.
Rita's grandfather, Sidney, lived at 10 Tidy Street but died prior to Rita's birth in 1926. He is buried in Bear Road Cemetery.
Rita's great-grandfather, Martin Van Buren Bligh, was born in the USA. He later married Octavia Passingham and they lived at 24 Queen's Gardens, where they still resided at the time of Rita's grandmother's marriage to Sidney Frederick Angel. Sidney's address on the marriage certificate is 16 Windmill Street, Brighton.
