Licensing hearings
December 2007 and January 2008
By Roy Skam and Gabrielle Villermet, North Laine residents
An NLCA representative recently attended licensing hearings for the 'Gardens' and 'Gloucester Club', as did one of the North Laine local councillors. Both applications were granted with conditions (abbreviated here):
'Gardens'
Recorded music Sun to Thurs to cease at 23.00
Recorded music Fri and Sat to cease at 23.59
Performance of live music to cease at 23.00
Live and recorded music to be governed by sound limiting device
Licensee to ensure no excessive noise from the premises to cause people in the neighbourhood to be unreasonably disturbed
Note: 'Gardens' has changed hands and will reopen as 'The White Rabbit'.
'Brighton Gloucester Club (Barfly)'
All under 18s to be accompanied by an adult
No live music after 23.00 hours
Licence holder to give 28 days notice of any live music events considered to be high risk to the Police and the Licensing Authority
B&H City Council's Statement of Licensing Policy Review
The Council has been reviewing its Statement of Licensing Policy and invited comments. Since the Licensing Act 2003 was introduced, we have seen more and more applications for new licences and variations to existing licences, all of which have been granted. This has led to unacceptable noise and disturbance to residents at all hours. NLCA responded to the Council urging them to include North Laine in a Cumulative Impact Area.
