Tidy Street Photo Project, No 3 of 12
By Heather Hacker, North Laine resident
When Lisa Creagh asked for volunteers for her photography project, I never dreamt of the fun we would have since she first called to ask for a choice of photos of our lives.
It meant delving into boxes from my childhood in Africa. Memories of my parents and our lives over there filled many evenings. I wondered how the lives of four new babies in Tidy Street would compare with mine and so I chose a picture of me with my Dad at the coast in Mombasa - very different from Brighton. The photo was taken by my mother.
Tidy Street has been broadcast, televised and photographed and neighbours who seldom meet have had a party and many conversations as we posed beside our windows. Lisa has become a friend and has put a lot of hard work into a project that has grown and spread beyond the dreams of this much beloved street in North Laine, in 2006 celebrating 30 years of togetherness. I hope the new babies will love our area as much as we do. They are all very welcome.
But we do need new blood to keep up the good work that is being done in the community and which is greatly appreciated.
