A bygone time
By Peter Crowhurst, North Laine resident
This is a photographic print of several back yards in Kensington Street, Brighton. It was commissioned by the local Environmental Health department of Brighton Borough Council as part of a record of areas considered for slum clearance.
The photograph shows several back yards in the street. Washing lines can be seen hanging between the outside toilets and an ivy-covered wall. Three people can be seen in the neighbouring yard. A man cups his chin and observes the photographer, while a blurred adult and child can be seen next to him.
