A splash of colour

Due to the water shortage and hosepipe ban the city decided not to have hanging baskets in 2006. As a result it was also decided not to enter the South East in Bloom competition and the hanging basket and window box categories were excluded from the community competitions.

The ban has now been lifted, so this year [2007] we will again have the baskets, although we are all expected to save water wherever possible. All the categories have been reinstated and the City in Bloom competitions will be launched on Thursday 5th April 2007 in Victoria Gardens by St Peter's Church.

This year's theme

The theme this year is 'A Splash of Colour'. Also to be unveiled will be the fantastic Arts Commission living sculpture 'In our Hands'. Competition entry forms will be distributed and we will again be entertained by the Silver Sounds band.
