Supporting amateur theatre
By Peter Crowhurst, NLCA Theatre Group coordinator
Over the past year 2006/7 the Theatre Group has been reformed and there are now monthly visits to the Brighton Little Theatre. The Little Theatre is situated close to Churchill Square and has a cosy bar where we meet prior to performances and where we often finish the evening. The theatre has seating for about 100 and all seats offer good views.
All residents are welcome to join the group and to come along either regularly or just for the occasional play. It is an opportunity to meet local residents and enjoy a wide variety of plays performed by a very good amateur company. I take bookings a fortnight in advance and tickets can be collected from me at the theatre by 7.30pm on the night of the performance. All performances begin at 7.45pm and cost £7.50.
Over the last year we have seen productions by Pinter, Priestley and Warner and are looking forward to seeing in the near future plays by Stoppard, Shakespeare and Penhall. On Thursday 10th May 2007 we will be going to see 'The Merchant of Venice', set against the backdrop of 1930s Italy and the rise of Fascism, and on Thursday 24th May there is 'Blue/Orange' by Joe Penhall.
