Kemp Street

A brief history

By Peter Crowhurst, North Laine resident

Kemp Street has attractive small terraced houses on both sides from the 1840s. It has been primarily a residential street.  However there have always been business premises in the street. There are still signs of former business names on the walls. In 1934 the infamous Trunk Murder involving Tony Mancini took place and the street is often on the tour of local historians.

Comments/reviews:

Does anyone know about the smallpox outbreak which originated in a laundry in number 4 or 5 Kemp Street, possibly in the 1940s?
