Planning online

How to access applications through the Council's website

By Jackie Fuller, North Laine resident

Brighton & Hove City Council's website now makes it much easier for all of us with access to the internet to see what is happening with regard to planning applications affecting us.

Some residents seem to be unaware that all planning applications, including architects' drawings, can be viewed online, so here are some simple to follow step-by-step instructions:

(1) Go to the Council's website at: www.brighton-hove.gov.uk.

(2) In the Quick Links menu on the left of the screen, choose Planning (3rd option down).

(3) In the Planning menu on the right of the screen, choose Planning Register (approximately 8th option down).

(4) Read and accept the Conditions.

(5) On the next screen there are various ways of searching:

(i) If you want to see all applications affecting North Laine, choose North Laine from the Conservation Area field options and leave all other fields showing as All; then click Search.

(ii) If you know the actual Application Reference Number, enter this in that field and then click Search.

(iii) Or ditto if you only know the Address.

(6) When you get to the application(s) you're interested in, there are various (yellow) menu options across the top, such as Application Details, Consultations, Decision, Reason, and Documents (allowing you to download the full application and plans).

Keep your eyes open for notices tied to lampposts and note down the application number, on which you can search as above for full details. Even better is to check online every week for new applications which relate to our area.
