Kissing coppers appeared on the Astoria building

Was it by Bansky?

By Jackie Fuller, North Laine resident

On 1st April 2014 (April Fools Day) a new artwork appeared on the side of the old Astoria Theatre in Gloucester Place – another image of the ‘Kissing Policemen’ by Bansky that first appeared on the side of the Prince Albert pub in Frederick Place in 2004.

It looked authentic

Although it looked authentic, it has since been confirmed by Bansky’s representatives that it is a fake.

The original was auctioned

The original Banksy mural fetched $575,000 (£345,000) at a US auction in February after being removed from the wall of the pub and went to a buyer in Miami. It remains one of Bansky’s best known works.
