Recent review of the North Laine list

In an article on the subject of renovating your house (see here), Peter Crowhurst explains that being on the Local List of Heritage Assets is no longer necessary where properties are already covered by Listed Building, Conservation Area and Article 4 protections.

Review of the Local List

The Local List has recently been reviewed and buildings and open spaces now included in the Local List relevant to the North Laine Conservation Area but not otherwise protected by the above provisions only include the following:

  • Brighthelm Centre Rest Garden
  • Brighthelm Community Centre (North Road)
  • Galeed Strict Baptist Chapel (Gloucester Road)
  • Gloucester Mews (former military drill hall)
  • Gloucester Place Baptist Church
  • Heart & Hand pub (North Road)
  • Trafalgar Court (Gloucester Building, City College)

There are others bordering on North Laine but which are not technically in the North Laine Conservation Area. The full revised Local List can be viewed on the Council’s website.
