Fire on 11th June 2015

Thursday 11th June 2015 was a day of drama in North Laine when a massive fire started at the Bath Store end of Argus Lofts in Robert Street.

Seven fire engines

All residents of the building had to be evacuated and the fire was attended by seven fire engines, including an aerial appliance to attack the flames from above. They were parked in Kensington Street and drew water from hydrants in North Road. The whole area had to be cordoned off.

Smell of acrid smoke

Crews directed jets from hoses up at the building while an aerial fire engine poured water down from above. Although the flames were not visible from below but only from further away, the smell of acrid smoke filled the air.
