Charleston dancers in Kensington Gardens

Dancing their way round North Laine and Brighton

A YouTube video clip of dancers doing the Charleston around Brighton has been proving a hit online. The 4½ minute clip shows a brightly dressed group performing moves to the dance around some of our famous landmarks, including many in North Laine such as Kensington Gardens, New Road, Sydney Street, Pavilion Gardens and next to the traditional letterboxes in Pelham Square.

A global project

The video was put together as part of a global project called I Charleston, which celebrates the dance by filming it being performed around the world. It took six months to film and was launched in September 2014.

40 different Brighton locations

More than 80 dancers aged from 5 to 80 perform in 40 different Brighton locations in the clip.
