Mayor's reception for NLCA, 25th March 2015

On Wednesday 25th March 2015 a group of North Laine residents attended a reception given by the Mayor of Brighton & Hove, Cllr Brian Fitch, to celebrate the work of the North Laine  Community Association.

Mayor spoke of NLCA's contribution

Following drinks and nibbles the Mayor spoke of the contribution of the NLCA to the life of the city and the importance of residents volunteering their time to organise events and to work with the Council on its various consultations and projects.

The NLCA Chair replied

In reply the Chair of the NLCA Peter Crowhurst thanked the Mayor for hosting the event and for recognising the work done by local community groups.

Peter mentioned those North Laine residents who, in the early days of the NLCA, fought the Council's plans to demolish large tracts of the North Laine and what the Association had achieved in recent years to protect the  quality of life of residents and to maintain the historic character of the area.

Tour by the Mayoress

The Mayoress then took the group on a tour of the Council Chamber and  connecting rooms and gave a fascinating talk about the history of the  rooms and the paintings  they contain.

Cllr Fitch retiring

The Mayor, Cllr Brian Fitch, and his wife Nora have now retired from active politics and we wish them well for their future.
